I'm running away

This was a fun shoot. I was trying to create an image to enter into a fine art photography competition. I had an idea of my son Tyler sitting in an old tram stop with a vintage suitcase and a teddy. The idea was that he was upset and was running away. But could I pull it off? You know the old saying “never work with kids and animals”.

We arrived early to allow enough time to prepare for the morning sunrise.

My gear for this shoot was as follows;

A single light source being a Profoto B10xplus in a Profoto XL silver umbrella with diffusor.

A Canon 5dsr with a 70-200L lens. The strobe was placed on a C stand with weights holding it down.

The only props I had to purchase were the vintage suitcase and the teddy. These were purchased from local charity shops for a grand total of $14 AUD.

As this was a personal project I only had my wife helping me so I had to choose a location with few pedestrians walking through the scene. I also had to time the weather so we had a no wind morning. I knew if I had wind then the extra large umbrella would be too hard to control without someone holding onto it.

The challenge was to keep adjusting the camera exposure settings to slightly under expose for the ambient light and change the strobe settings at the same time. The scene was constantly shifting so I had to be on my toes.

In the end I cam home with over 100, 50 MB frames so I had choices.
