Getting there

Mackenzie Falls is about a 45 minute drive from Halls Gap in Western Victoria. There’s a car park and toilets upon arrival. From there you will need to walk for about 20 minutes down a paved trail that includes 260 steps. The walk is quite steep and narrow in places and a reasonable level of fitness is advised.

Best times for photography

Because the falls face the west they work best with morning light behind them, otherwise, you will have to crop out the overexposed and uninteresting evening sky. These falls can be packed with tourists in the evening too so a morning trip before dawn with a head torch is advised.
